One of the top stories today was President Trump meeting with various heads of top Pharma companies (LLY, MRK, etc.), and the group has seen a bounce (biotech as well) following commentary he will soon announce a new FDA leader whose mission, in part, will be to speed the drug approval process (helping names like PFE and LLY which missed earnings earlier turn higher and lift biotech by 2%). All eyes on AAPL after the close posting record revenue and an all time record in $246 billion cash. Key events this week will include the FOMC meeting (starts today with results tomorrow – as expectations are for rates to remain on hold while waiting for more clarity on fiscal policy) and

Signs of Volatility Emerging?

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9DZkg4azI1MWNmMA==[/video_player] Stocks started lower…finishing there as well…with major averages posting one of their worst sessions in months amid uncertainty following the immigration policy enacted by the Trump administration this weekend. The news weighed heavily on transportation stocks – airlines specifically. President Trump today signed an executive order to slash regulations and said will reveal his Supreme Court nominee pick tomorrow night at 8:00 PM EST as he remains busy into his 2nd week on the job. Major averages finished off their worst levels, but still posted the biggest drops of the year ahead of a busy week of earnings. Key events this week will include the FOMC meeting (starts tomorrow – ends Wednesday – with expectations for rates to remain on hold while waiting for more clarity on fiscal policy). The January monthly jobs data will be released on Friday, as well as

A Low Volatility/High Risk Marketplace with Plenty of Opportunities

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9lV2JHQk9YUmhqMA==[/video_player] Stocks ended the day little changed, trading in a very narrow range throughout (an 8-point range for the S&P 500), as markets felt “tired” given the recent surge to all-time highs this week. The Dow Industrials topped the 20K level for the first time on Wednesday and the S&P 500 the 2,300 level yesterday, holding above or near those levels the last few days as investors continued to sift through a busy week of earnings. Economic data the last few days have been mixed, with disappointing housing data yesterday and GDP missing the mark today, but markets remain steady. Several sectors remain active given the stance/commentary from the new Trump administration with infrastructure, materials and financials rising, while shares of retailers and grocers were hit hard today on fears they would face billions of dollars in extra import costs under the border

Tech Earnings Season Fireworks, Correlations and Complacency

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9xeTNBVmtoR1BYTQ==[/video_player] Just a day after major averages trade to new all-time highs, stocks moved sideways on Thursday amid another earnings barrage for investors to digest. The Dow Industrials held above the 20K level, day after topping it for the first time ever (high of 20,125 today), while the S&P 500 index briefly touched the 2,300 level for the first time and the NASDAQ remains near its highs. There was an earnings overload today, on what looks like the busiest day of the quarter, with some big reports in tech coming after hours (GOOGL, MSFT and INTC). GOOGL is down 2% after hours after an earnings miss. Tonight’s video discusses what to look for next from this parabolic market…

With Markets at ALL time Highs What are YOUR Risks?

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9vc3I5Z1VPcDA1aw==[/video_player] U.S. stocks advanced today, with the Nasdaq, S&P 500, Russell 2000 and Dow each posting new all-time highs. The Dow finally topped the 20,000 level on a continued rally that has been propelled by expectations of stronger economic growth and government spending under the new Trump’s administration. It was a similar picture in Europe as stocks jumped the most since November on optimism about corporate earnings. Earnings have helped fuel further gains for major averages, adding on to the Trump rally, while defensive assets such as gold and bonds have taken a back seat the last two days and the dollar has dropped to its lowest levels since early December. There were eight new 52-week highs in the Dow (IBM, DD, BA, AAPL, CAT, HD, V and AXP). As stocks hit new highs the number 1 email I’m getting is how can

Bigger Range Around the Corner

Including IBM which TheoTraders had a position in and closed today with a 70% profit. With today’s gains, the Nasdaq Composite traded above its prior intraday high of 5584.26, led by gains in Internet, semiconductors, and software names. Materials pushed higher (52-week high for FCX) while oil prices advanced for a fourth day. There were also five Dow components reporting today (DD the only one higher, with VZ, JNJ, TRV, MMM all lower). Once again, after a few days of weakness, U.S. stocks have found themselves pushing higher as fear dissipate (CBOE Volatility VIX index falls back to January lows near 11 – not far from all-time lows). Markets also continue to sort out impact of new Trump

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9Uakd5Z093OEhmQQ==[/video_player] U.S. stock averages opened the day in negative territory, but pared losses into to the close for 9th time in the last 10 trading day. Most of the news of the day focused around Donald Trump and several policy changes on his first working business day in the new administration. The NASDAQ bounced more than 30 points off its lows, while the S&P and Dow were weighed down by weakness in energy, as markets await a very busy week of corporate earnings. With all eyes on comments/policies from President Donald Trump let’s check out the SKEW and what it means. However, if we look back in the last 2 weeks the broad based S&P 500 index literally did not move. In this weekend edition let’s hunt for the best opportunity in today’s markets.  To learn more about these opportunities join me for a free online seminar called, ““The Right Trading Strategy for 2017 and Beyond” sign up here: https://theotrade.com/snap/

Is SKEW Good For You?

[video_player type=”youtube” youtube_remove_logo=”Y” width=”640″ height=”360″ align=”center” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″]aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS93a2pYZ3Fac19mcw==[/video_player] Stocks slipped again, as the Dow Industrial Average fell for a 5th straight day, down about 300 points from all-time highs reached two-weeks ago (1/6) and at 6-week lows heading into tomorrow’s Presidential inauguration. Today marked another round of positive economic data with jobless claims plunging and housing data rising. The dollar rebounded on the better data and as ECB President Draghi said QE may be expanded if needed (which weighed on gold)…but the dollar pared gains and bonds pared losses. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) tops 13 level, above 2-week highs and up for a 3rd day. The NASDAQ 100 Index touched a record intraday high earlier – before sliding. In tonight’s learn about SKEW and the opportunity it presents in the short term…

The tech heavy NASDAQ rebounded after posting its worst performance of the year yesterday (falling from record highs reached last Friday) amid a jump in semiconductors and ahead of NFLX earnings. All eyes on the European Central Bank tomorrow morning. In tonight’s video we will go through the quarterly lesson of the positions you can take around earnings…
